Qingming Festival Traditions: Solar Term, Remembrance & Spring Outings
Qingming is both one of China’s 24 solar terms and a traditional festival. It usually falls in early April, while the exact Gregorian date varies by year. Its customs combine ancestor remembrance and tomb sweeping with spring outings and other seasonal activities. Historically, practices associated with the nearby Cold Food and Shangsi observances gradually blended into Qingming. This article focuses on the festival’s seasonal meaning, remembrance traditions and classical poetry; regional practices vary.

Cold Food Festival & Qingming: Origins, Customs & Connection
The Cold Food Festival and Qingming were historically distinct but closely timed observances. Cold Food customs included avoiding fire, eating cold food and visiting graves; Qingming was a solar term associated with spring renewal and outdoor activity. Over centuries—especially as tomb-sweeping practices were formalized and the dates overlapped—their customs gradually blended. Today Qingming commonly combines ancestor remembrance and tomb sweeping with spring outings and other seasonal activities. The popular story linking Cold Food to Jie Zitui should be presented as a traditional legend rather than fully documented history. Dates and customs vary by region and year.

Vietnam’s U.S. Non-Market Economy Status: 2024 Trade Snapshot
Historical policy snapshot: on August 2, 2024, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that Vietnam would continue to be classified as a non-market economy for purposes of calculating U.S. antidumping duties. The department stated that the calculation methodology therefore remained unchanged. This determination did not set one duty rate for every Vietnamese product, determine all aspects of Vietnam’s economy, or establish a fixed effect on China. Any implications for China–Vietnam supply chains, wood products or sourcing are indirect and depend on the merchandise, country of origin, exporter-specific proceedings, customs treatment, anti-circumvention issues and later legal or policy developments. Importers and exporters should verify the current case record and obtain qualified trade advice before making compliance or sourcing decisions.

Yinqueshan Han Tomb Bamboo Slips: Linyi Archaeological Landmark
The Yinqueshan Han tombs are an important archaeological landmark in Linyi, Shandong. Excavations of Tombs No. 1 and No. 2 in 1972 uncovered a major collection of bamboo slips, including texts of Sun Tzu’s Art of War and the long-lost Art of War attributed to Sun Bin. The discovery helped clarify historical questions surrounding the two military thinkers and their works. In 2021, the Yinqueshan Han tombs were selected among China’s “100 Archaeological Discoveries of the Century.” The site and Yinqueshan Han Tomb Bamboo Slips Museum offer overseas visitors and wood-product buyers travelling to Linyi a useful introduction to the city’s cultural heritage. Opening hours, exhibitions and visitor arrangements should be confirmed with the museum before a trip.

Chinese Spring Festival: Traditions & Export Order Planning
Chinese Spring Festival, also called Chinese New Year, is China’s most important family holiday. Its lunar-calendar dates change each year, and actual factory, supplier, port and logistics schedules may extend beyond the official public holiday. Overseas buyers should confirm each supplier’s closing and restart dates instead of assuming one national shutdown period. For wood veneer, plywood, LVL and related orders, plan approved samples, raw-material preparation, production, quality inspection, documents and vessel booking with extra buffer before the holiday. After reopening, confirm workforce return, production sequence, material availability and updated shipping schedules before relying on a promised dispatch date.
